Let’s start with the obvious. If your feet stay warm and in a dark place for a long time, they can harbour germs which will lead to unattractive infections such as the dreaded Staphylococcus aureus .

Always pick a pair of sandals or flip flops that have a thicker sole with arch support- the more straps it has, the better as this can decrease the stress put on the toes from gripping the flip flop; also so your feet don’t slide off.

 Another import thing to look out for is whether the shoes can bend in half as that is a tell-tale sign that it will not provide support. If you have already own such a pair, there is no need to throw them away as they may come in handy for the pool side or the gym.
